Benny Carter was een gigant in de jazzwereld van de late jaren twintig tot aan zijn dood in 2003. Als subliem saxofonist heeft hij bijgedragen aan vele opnames maar ook was hij een begenadigd arrangeur, componist en bandleider. Clark Terry noemde hem 'the most highly respected musician of the whole of us.' Bij dit onbekommerde optreden uit 1977 wordt hij begeleid door pianist Ray Bryant, drummer Jimmie Smith en de tot beste bassist ter wereld verkozen Niels Pedersen. Klassieke tracks komen voorbij, zoals: Body And Soul and Here's That Rainy Day Again.
