De eerste cd in Gianandrea Noseda's Rachmaninoff-serie, Francesca da Rimini, was 'CD of the Week' in The Daily Telegraph en The Times schreef: 'Noseda beeldhouwt de broeierige passies van Rachmaninoffs dramatische partituur met opwindende intensiteit'. Noseda richt nu zijn aandacht op Symfonie nr. 1. Dit werk was een soort persoonlijke zoektocht geworden. Hij besloot de partituur te bestuderen, het werk te leren en het uiteindelijk uit te voeren. Hij zegt dat hij versteld stond van de schoonheid van de melodische lijn, de verfijnde harmonie en de gecontroleerde structuur. De symfonie wordt hier gekoppeld aan het enige voltooide deel van een symfonie die gepland was tijdens Rachmaninoffs conservatoriumjaren en aan The Isle of the Dead, beide werken die de vloeiendheid van Symfonie Nr. 1 aanvullen. Noseda zal de Eerste Symfonie uitvoeren met het BBC Philharmonic tijdens de BBC Proms in 2008 en in de Bridgewater Hall in Manchester in november.
